Government funded Advanced Learning Loan

At My Training Centre, we understand that financing a Personal Training Course can be quite costly and off-putting to learners.

However, with the help of the Government funded Advanced Learning Loan, there will be no barriers to becoming a personal trainer. The Advanced Learning Loan for Personal Trainer Courses allows you to loan the money so that you can study the course now. You will only pay back the loan once you are in employment.

How do I know if I’m eligible for the loan?

Before you receive the loan, you must ensure that you fulfil the following criteria:

  • Undertake an eligible course with an approved school/organisation
  • Undertake a course from Level 3 onwards

Does my credit history impact on the loan?

No, your credit history will not impact on your ability to receive the loan as no checks are carried out. Paying back the loan will depend on your salary and you will not pay back the loan until you are earning £21,000 a year.

Application process

Can I apply for the loan online?

Yes, applying for the loan could not be any easier and you can apply with the click of button. Once you have received your Learning and Funding Information Letter, you will be able to apply online. Visit the Advanced Learning Loans page for more details.

What information must I provide when I apply?

When applying for our courses, you must provide the following information:

  • The course you will be studying
  • The loan amount you wish to take out
  • The fee for your course

In the Learning and Funding Information Letter, there will be detailed information about the course and the course fees. You will be required to give information which will confirm your identity. UK Residents need not worry as providing their passport details will suffice.

For those who are not UK nationals, you will have to prove you are a resident of the UK and provide physical evidence to support your application. A National Insurance number will be required as the loan will be to the chosen college or organisation.

What if I don’t have a National Insurance number, can I still apply for an advance?

Before making an application, it is vital that you have a National Insurance number as this will allow the loan to be paid to the organisation/college. You can still apply for a loan if you don’t have a National Insurance number. Student Finance England will be in touch should you require one and you may have to arrange an appointment with the Job Centre to get a number.

How long does the application process take?

If your application does not require any further details and you have submitted your passport number online, you can expect your application to be processed within a two week period (though this may differ at busier times). The application process will take longer should there not be enough information.

How is the loan repaid?

Repayments are deducted automatically from your wage via the tax system. The payments start from the first April after you have completed/left the course or when you are earning over £21,000.

When do I start paying off the loan?

You will not start paying the Advanced Learning Loan until the following April after you have completed/left the course. If required, you can make voluntary payments which will help pay the loan off quickly and reduce the interest level.

How much will my repayments be?

Repayments are made at the rate of 9% providing your income is over £404 a week, £1,750 a month or £21,000 a year. The payment plan is based purely on income and will not depend on the number of loans taken out or the amount borrowed. If your income should fall beneath the £21,000 benchmark, then the repayments will stop and only begin when your income increases over this amount.
